What to Avoid When You Have Dental Veneers

Many of the things that you should avoid when you have dental veneers are the same types of things you should avoid with your original teeth. The general rules that you should follow to protect your teeth are the same rules you should be following with veneers.

The porcelain on the veneers is very similar to the enamel on your teeth - that's why it is the ideal material for veneers. You need to keep them clean, safe, and avoid them being damaged and stained.

Keeping Your Dental Veneers Looking Great for a Long Time

Things like chewing on sharp objects (toothpicks, ice, etc.) and trying to open things with your teeth should definitely be avoided when you have dental veneers. These thin sheets are delicate, and require you to be careful with them.

If you couldn't put a white porcelain tile into a substance and have it still come out white, chances are, you shouldn't be eating or drinking it in excess, either. It will leave your veneers with heavy stains in very little time if you eat or drink the wrong things.

You also want to make sure that you are brushing your teeth like your dentist has always recommended, along with flossing each day. This helps your teeth stay healthy and strong, which gives your veneers a strong foundation to hold on to you. If your teeth get weak behind the veneers, it could cause them to chip or break, or even fall off entirely.

When you get dental veneers, speak with your dentist about what you need to do and what you need to avoid. This will help you keep your veneers not only looking great, but also functioning like they are supposed to. For more information about maintaining your dental veneers, talk with your dentist.
