Nuts Can Improve Your Dental Health - Here's How

I'm sure as long as you can remember, you've been told to brush two times a day, floss once and day, use mouthwash for a nice rinse, and come in and see us routinely for cleanings and exams. When at our office, you're probably reminded to stay away from sugary and starchy foods and drinks.

We might give you information about changes you can make to your diet to improve your overall health. Just a couple of the many good reasons to keep a good relationship with us. Here are some things to know about adding nuts to your diet.

Why Are Nuts Good for Your Teeth?

If there is one thing you should consider changing or adding to your diet, it's nuts. Nuts are packed with tons of nutrients. Adding a handful of nuts as a snack routinely can help boost your antioxidant levels, they're a good source of protein, fiber, Omega 3 fatty acids, and the good fats that lower bad cholesterol.

Walnuts contain Ellagic Acid which has been found to be a cancer fighter. Walnuts also play a huge role in fighting heart disease. Hazelnuts contain 86% of the daily requirements of vitamin E which is really good for your skin.

They are loaded with B vitamins. Brazil nuts are packed with minerals like Calcium, Iron, Copper, Magnesium, Potassium and Phosphorus. They also contain Selenium, which plays a huge role in boosting your metabolism, and high amounts of zinc that is good at clearing acne. Pine nuts contain a fatty acid called Pinolenic.

Next time you come in and see us, talk to us about some of the foods you eat. Sometimes when we make changes that we think are good choices, they can actually be mistakes when it comes to our teeth. Tossing some almonds on a salad along with a bunch of salad dressing is not such a good idea.

Too much sugar and acid content. Read your labels and have your information before making your selection. For more information and suggestions, schedule an office visit and go over some of these new meal plans. Remember to schedule cleanings with us every six months.
