Nicotine that's found in any type of tobacco is one of the primary causes. Another main reason why your teeth turn brown is due to the food you eat and drink. This includes things like coffee, tea, red wine, cola, blueberries, blackberries, and pomegranates. Tooth decay can also cause your teeth to grow brown. This is because the outer layer of your tooth is eroding. When this happens, bacteria starts growing on your teeth. Trauma can also cause this to happen, especially if the tooth's nerve is damaged. Over time, dental work also grows old and deteriorates. Fillings in particular are known to stain your teeth as they age. Other health conditions can also be the culprit here. These include Celiac disease and aging in general. Medications can also stain your teeth. This is especially true of antibiotics like Tetracycline doxycycline (Monodox, Doryx), and Glibenclamide (Glynase). Genetics can also play a role here. While some people have really healthy teeth, others have slightly discolored teeth. With disorders like dentinogenesis imperfecta a person may even have spots on their teeth.
