![]() While nutritionists would consider them healthy for you, they can damage your teeth if you're not careful. Where The Dangers RestsTomatoes are like citrus fruits in that they're highly acidic. As such, they will cause the enamel on your teeth to erode. Unfortunately, it isn't just raw tomatoes that will harm your teeth. Things like tomato sauces, soups, and pizza can also cause tooth erosion. This is because tomatoes are very acidic regardless of how they're eaten. One of the best things you can do is to make sure that you always mix tomatoes with other foods when you eat them. This will keep your teeth from being overly exposed to tomato acids. It's also a good idea to immediately rinse your mouth with water after you eat any of these foods. You can't brush your teeth or use mouthwash right away though. This will only make things worse for your teeth. Instead, you need to wait 30 minutes before brushing them gently and using mouthwash. (You should also get into the habit of doing this any time you eat citrus foods too.) Doing so will get rid of the acid so it's not sitting on your teeth where it could potentially cause more harm. When you eat a lot of these types of foods, it's even more important for you to make sure you maintain your regular visits with us. Doing so will allow us to stay on top of any potential issues with your teeth. This will also help you know for sure that you have a healthy smile, not just a white one.
