Some Foods Can Lead to Toothaches

Posted on 5/10/2019 by Doctor Schwei
Some Foods Can Lead to ToothachesHaving a toothache is one of the most common ailments of the human body. In fact, toothache is the second most common ailment humans face besides the common cold. If your teeth have been hurting lately, you may want to think about your diet.

There are some foods that can lead to toothaches. Want to know how to eliminate toothaches from your diet? Keep reading. We have some information that might help you keep tooth pain out of your daily life.

Eliminating Foods for Sensitive Teeth and Tooth Decay

First on your list of things to eliminate if you have sensitive teeth should be soda. Soda has two ingredients that can lead to tooth decay or make sensitive teeth more sensitive. Both the sugars and acid in soda create holes in tooth enamel over time. In addition, both sugars and acid can irritate nerves, which increase tooth sensitivity.

If you must have your soda during the day, experts say that you should limit it to one per day.
In addition to soda, you may want to think about cutting back on coffee. Like soda, coffee contains acids which work to erode your tooth enamel over time. Sensitive teeth may also react to the acids in the coffee as well as the heat from the coffee. As with soda, if you can't give up your morning cup of coffee, you should limit it.

Citrus Foods Can Also Cause Problems

One kind of food you might not think to limit in your diet because it is actually good for you. While citrus fruits contain vitamins A and C, which improve gum disease and overall health, they can also contain acids. Pineapples, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, and tangerines all contain a lot of acid. These natural acids can eat at your tooth enamel over time just as soda or coffee can.

While no one is going to ask you to eliminate fruit from your diet, be sure that you are eating a wide variety of fruit, so you are reducing the amount of acid in your mouth. Examples of fruits with lower amounts of acid include bananas, apples, and melons.
