![]() Almost everyone brushes their teeth. The general advice is to do it twice daily and ideally after meals. Although many of us have been taught to do this since childhood, there are a lot of people who still are not sure if they are brushing correctly.
One of the most common questions that we receive from people is whether they are brushing their teeth long enough. An exact answer to this is generally going to be: it depends. How Long Should You Brush Your Teeth? While you certainly want to ensure that you get into all of the small places that are difficult to reach, as well as being thorough, you do not want to brush too hard and end up damaging your tooth enamel.Often, the advice we will give is giving the teeth a good brush with an up and down motion, but not pressing too hard on the tooth! For the most part, the length of time that you should brush your teeth for varies between two and three minutes. If there are particularly large pieces of food still stuck in your teeth, this is obviously going to take a little bit longer. A lot of people tend not to make it to two minutes: and very few actually end up brushing their teeth for three. However, this is the optimal amount of time that you can use in order to get all of that plaque!
