Why Dental Implants?

At Premier Valley Dental, we are serious about our patient’s oral health. One of the biggest oral health issues that anyone can face is the loss of teeth. When teeth are lost and not replaced, there are lots of oral health issues that can arise. Dental implants are our preferred method of tooth replacement. When one of our patients ask us why we recommend dental implants to replace missing teeth, we have lots of information for them. If you ever have any questions for us, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (602) 279-1641.

Tooth Loss Leads to Serious Issues

Tooth loss represents a serious oral health malady. Many people tend to view tooth extraction as an answer to oral health maladies like extreme tooth decay or trauma, but this is only partially true. Yes, a tooth extraction can provide temporary relief from a severely decayed tooth, but it will also set in motion a series of serious problems if the tooth is not replaced quickly.

Teeth depend on their neighbors to keep them in the proper place in your jaw. When a tooth is lost, the neighbors will tend to fall into the space left behind. This can cause some significant movement of your teeth and result in your bite not fitting together properly. When your bite doesn’t fit correctly a variety of issues can arise, none of them good. Temporomandibular joint problems are common issues that arise because of problems with your bite and can result in jaw pain, loss of sleep, and difficulty eating. If you replace missing teeth with a dental implant, your other teeth will be held in place, and these issues will be avoided.

Bone loss in your jaw is another serious oral health problem that commonly occurs to those who lose teeth and don’t replace them. Just like any part of your body, your jaw bone requires a certain amount of stimulation or else it will begin to atrophy. When this occurs, your bone will begin to recede. Bone loss in your jaw often results in further tooth loss. Dental implants provide your jaw with the same kind of stimulation that a natural tooth does, preventing bone and tooth loss.

The Emotional Ramifications For Lost Teeth

Tooth loss often results in a decrease in self-esteem and a desire to hide your smile. It’s no fun being aware of your tooth loss and feeling the need to hide your smile. Dental implants look just like your natural teeth and do a fantastic job of restoring your confidence in your smile.

Dentures are No Fun!

Dentures are a great way to replace missing teeth, but they are also quite a hassle to have to deal with and have some serious limitations. Aside from not being able to eat many of the foods that you enjoy, dentures require that you remove them to be cleaned and to sleep. While dentures can give fully edentulous patients more freedom, they do not compare to the freedom that dental implants can give.
